The HSCA enters Under 9, Under 11 and Girls Under 11 teams in the English Primary Schools Chess Association (EPSCA) Championships. A player’s age is taken as that on 31st August at the start of the current academic year.
The Under 11 and Under 9 Championships have two stages: regional heats, also known as zonals, followed by the final. The Girls Under 11 is just a final. All these competitions are run as jamborees. The Under 11 Championship is for teams of 20, whilst the Under 9 and Girls Under 11 are for teams of 12. Teams are permitted up to 4 reserve players.
We are in the East Zone which covers Barnet, Buckinghamshire, Cambridgeshire, Essex, Hertfordshire, Kent, Newham, Northamptonshire and Richmond. We have always qualified for the U9 and U11 Finals with an excellent overall performance of both teams.
Team managers select players who have performed well in local, regional and national junior competitions. Competition for places is always extremely tough. and for the best chance of getting noticed we recommend playing in one or all of the following tournaments.
1) Hertfordshire Junior Chess Championships
2) London Junior Chess Championships
3) UK Chess challenge
4) Hertfordshire Primary Schools League
5) Results of other events to which we have access.
If you feel that your child merits a place but are worried that they will not get noticed then you are free to submit any additional information that you think may support your case. Ideally, this should be done no later than Jan 31st 2016.
